Tips for Self-Care during COVID-19

| by Woodhouse Charleston, under Wellness

While the COVID-19 pandemic keeps us mostly confined to our homes, many of us are experiencing increased levels of stress and anxiety. Whether you’re adapting to working, parenting and/or schooling from home, worried about your business or the virus, missing your loved ones, or any combination of the above, these are most definitely uncertain times. Therefore, it’s important to take time to have moments of self-care throughout the day. Whatever your situation may be, here are some ideas of how you can practice self-care during coronavirus.

1. Practice Meditating

The popularity of meditation has been increasing for a while, as more and more people discover its benefits. Meditation is a collection of practices meant to help train your mind to focus and redirect thoughts. It has been shown to help with a variety of physical and mental conditions. Meditation can help ease anxiety and stress, which may have a chain reaction effect for any related conditions. Even if you’re not actively looking to alleviate anything in particular, meditation can help you focus and recenter, allowing you to move forward in your day with more awareness, intention, and peace. There are many apps and online courses that can help you practice meditation, but there’s no right or wrong way to meditate. Next time you’re relaxing in a bubble bath, try opening your mind to the thoughts that flow through without judgment, and see how it feels!

2. Create a Peaceful Haven

If you’re working from home for the first time, it’s important to set boundaries between your work life and your home life. Setting aside a space that’s dedicated solely to your relaxation, like your bedroom, will help your mind turn off at the end of the day. Amplify the peaceful atmosphere with the use of essential oils and an essential oil diffuser. Essential oils that have a relaxing effect include lavender, eucalyptus, sandalwood, rose, and bergamot. Add a few drops of your oil blend of choice into a diffuser and within minutes you’ll be transported to a stress-melting oasis.

3. Lean In to Loungewear

No one’s telling you that you can’t wear pajamas all day, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay in your old sweatpants and t-shirts from college. If pajamas are your new wardrobe, it makes sense to invest in some quality pieces that will spark joy and promote restful relaxation! We sell a variety of luxurious pajamas and loungewear in the Woodhouse Day Spa + Boutique, including Cat’s Pajamas and the entire UGG line. Cat’s Pajamas makes stylish, fun and comfortable women’s pajamas, based on the idea that loungewear doesn’t have to be either frumpy or super serious. Their sets come in a super-soft Pima knit fabric and different styles for every kind of lounger, from nightgowns to two-piece sets.

4. Give CBD a Try

CBD (cannabidiol) is a popular natural remedy derived from the hemp plant. While CBD is found in the cannabis plant, it doesn’t contain the psychoactive compound in marijuana, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD oil can be made in many forms and can have a variety of benefits, from relieving pain to reducing anxiety and depression. Woodhouse Day Spa + Boutique stocks several CBD products from Wildflower Wellness. Two such products are directed at relieving muscle pains and soreness. The CBD Cold Stick is a blend of shea butter, beeswax, and coconut oil infused with CBD and peppermint essential oil used externally to deliver relief, and the CBD Relief Tincture is taken sublingually for maximum benefit. Incorporating a CBD oil product into your self-care as needed can help you relax from the stressors of these confusing times.

5. Move Your Body

Self-care isn’t just about quiet moments of peace; it’s about doing what you need to do to take care of your body! Exercise has SO many wonderful physical and mental benefits. Even just 30-60 minutes of exercise a day can boost your mood, give you more energy, and help you sleep better. When you work up a sweat, you bump up your body’s production of endorphins, which send signals to the brain to trigger positive feelings. You may have heard of a “runner’s high,” but any kind of activity can get those endorphins flowing. For a bonus boost, try taking a walk or jog around your neighborhood. Fresh air and vitamin D can do wonders for you when you’ve been sitting inside behind a screen all day!

During a pandemic, it’s understandable that we’re all just trying to do our own individual bests each and every day. But with looming responsibilities and the inevitable stress of life, it’s important to take time for yourself as well. Practice self-care when and where you can, whether it’s a few deep breaths in the bathroom or a full-on spa night. Stock up on any of your wellness needs at the Woodhouse Day Spa + Boutique, and enjoy treating yourself!
